A Brief Bio or Personal Summary

Ever since I plopped out into the world I've always had this dream of doing nothing but drawing comics all day. Alas, in adulthood there's a couple of jerks named Time and Money who are always pushing me around. I know that one of these days I'll kick both their asses and reach my potential. My brain is a massive factory of ideas! It's a daily struggle to spill them out onto paper, but I do what I can.

Of course there will always be a special place in my heart for my roots in MS Paint, but I'm mostly into black & white hand drawing, and dabbling in digital color. My style is all over the place because I'm still developing it and trying out new things. Common themes in my work include freaky animals and robots, weird blobby things, cute chubby things, horrifying gory things, wrinkly things, things licking things, things coming out of other things, scrawny things with gangly limbs, and anthropomorphic pigs.

Influences & Inspirations

Like most creative humans, I was heavily influenced by whatever comics, cartoons, and video games I was into as a kid that helped shaped my perception of art and storytelling. I grew up on a steady diet of X-Men and outer space, and basically anything else you can think of that was hot in the 90s.

Some of my biggest influences in comics since childhood and beyond have been creators such as Ben Edlund and Eli Stone [The Tick], James O'Barr [The Crow], Jeff Smith [Bone], Jamie Hewlett [Tank Girl, Gorillaz], Bob Burden [Flaming Carrot], Larry Marder [BeanWorld], and too many others to list. I also draw heavy inspiration from animators such as Peter Chung [Aeon Flux] and Akira Toriyama [DBZ], movie directors such as Stanley Kubrick [2001: A Space Odyssey] and Ridley Scott [Blade Runner, Alien], and video games I played as a kid like Earthworm Jim, Oddworld, Splatterhouse, and Mortal Kombat..

What are you currently working on?

Drafting up ideas mostly. The stories in my head involve coming-of-age tales about man-pigs going on epic other-worldly adventures, travelers from space caught amidst intergalactic wars, and rogue agents infiltrating secret societies. I have an endless supply of scribbles and sketches, but nothing solid yet, unfortunately. Trying to get my shit together.

Why should people vote for you?

You should vote for me because an artist grant will buy me enough instant noodles to fuel my creativity for a long time coming. It's difficult to balance my daily adult life with my childlike desire to create, but what gets me motivated the most is when people dig my work and want to see me doing more. Prizes aside, winning this thing will provide me with just enough of a kick in the ass to get me drawing again. More than anything, I just want to see my visions transformed into something real so I can share them with all of you!
